About M2
What is now M2 night club began life as a Cinema or Picture House in the late 1940s when Georgie Bradley who had been showing films on the site in a tent, built a solid structure. In the early 1950s Georgie sold the ‘Picture House’ to three brothers Nick, Tommy and Jimmy Doyle who were businessmen in the district. They revamped the building and put in a Balcony and toilets and continued showing films there. The ‘operator’ was Matt Byrne from Hospital Hill. The Doyle brothers continued their association with the Cinema until about 1970 when, with the advent of television, cinemas began to lose their appeal. They sold the Cinema to Danny Doyle from Adamstown and he, having carried out extensive renovations, opened the building as a Dance Hall. During the heyday of the Showband period Danny, who also owned a big hall in Adamstown, brought many famous Showbands to Bunclody. When the Showband period waned Danny let the hall to a local development group who ran Bingo there two or three nights a week until the early 1980’s when he opened the disco Caesar’s Palace. In 1994 Danny sold Caesar’s Palace to Michael Keogh. Michael carried out more improvements and additions and renamed the venue Meadowlands. In 2007 Eddie Doyle Purchased the business, made yet further improvements and gave the club its current name: M2
